Day and night perfumes – how to match your scent to the time of day
Day and night perfumes are a way of dividing scents by intensity and fragrance family: for the day you choose fresh, citrus and floral compositions, for the evening amber, woody and sweet ones. Michael Edwards's "Fragrances of the World" classification divides scents into four main families (fresh, floral, amber and woody), and these suggest which bottle to reach for in the morning and which at 8 pm. Daytime perfumes, everyday scents and evening perfumes differ above all in their base: a light musky base fades after 5–6 hours, while a heavy base of vanilla and amber lasts 8–10 hours on the skin. Which perfumes for the day and which for the evening

The season changes your choice as much as the time of day. An evening scent with vanilla and amber also works during the day in winter, because frost dampens projection. Can you wear evening perfumes during the day?
